The state and prospects of research in tropical medicine are analyzed, as are some aspects of training specialists in this field in the USSR. Progress in the control and prevention of tropical parasitic diseases in the Soviet Union and the COMECON countries is demonstrated. The significance of the problem of tropical diseases for all the socialist countries is shown, approaches to and methods of developing the research activity and training of specialists in tropical medicine are outlined.
