Statutory measures and alcoholic traffic offense an empirical study concerning efficacy of the 0.8 per mil blood alcohol limit

, : Statutory measures and alcoholic traffic offense an empirical study concerning efficacy of the 0.8 per mil blood alcohol limit. Blutalkohol 19(2): 137-170

The efficacy of the 0.8.permill. blood alcohol concentration limit on the development of alcohol-related traffic offences in West Germany was examined by use of uni- and bivariate ARIMA[autoregressive integrated moving average]-time series analysis. The 0.8.permill. law passed in Aug. 1973 was responsible for a 10% decrease in alcohol-related traffic accidents with personal injury, and a 20% decrease in licence withdrawal proposals. An increase in police control was also found following the legislation.
