Studies of 3 canine mammary cell lines 2. in vivo properties

, : Studies of 3 canine mammary cell lines 2. in vivo properties. European Journal of Cancer and Clinical Oncology 20(12): 1501-1508

Three cell lines, RME-134, 111 and 367, derived from cancer mammary carcinomas were used to induce tumors in athymic nuce mice after s.c. injection. The histopathology of the tumors was compared; each was found to resemble closely the original tumor. This did not change after serial in vivo passage. Metastasis never occurred. Injection of REM-134 cells intracranially resulted in a fast-growing tumor which also did not metastasize; injection intrapleurally resulted in growths most commonly on the mediastinum with confinement to the chest cavity. Fibronectin was present in the s.c. tumors. Two of the cell lines were cloned in semi-solid agar. When tested, these clones induced tumors identical histologically to the uncloned ones. Finally, male and female mice were injected s.c. with the same number of cells from each of the 3 lines, but the rate of tumor growth did not differ significantly between the 2 sexes.
