Study of diapause in the wohlfart fly wohlfahrtia magnifica diptera sarcophagidae

, : Study of diapause in the wohlfart fly wohlfahrtia magnifica diptera sarcophagidae. Entomologicheskoe Obozrenie 57(3): 481-487

Pupal diapause of the fly W. magnifica was studied. The autumn generation develops with a pupal diapause. In the northern Caucasus [USSR] diapausing pupae appear in late Aug. and early Sept. on decrease of the day-length to 14 h:40 min. Laboratory experiments proved photoperiod to be the main factor determining the onset of diapause. Reactivation of diapausing pupae in nature proceeds in the autumn and winter under 3-4 mo. cooling.
