The biological cycle of the zooplankton Tropocyclops prasinus was studied because of its possible importance as the dietary base of animals of superior trophic level and economic value, especially fish. The effects of environmental factors (temperature) and pollutants (herbicides) on the biological cycle were tested. Temperatures of 15.degree. C, 17.degree. .+-. 2.degree. C and 21.5.degree. .+-. 3.5.degree. C and the herbicide atrazine were used. The parameters studied were the average duration of ovigerous females and average number of ovipositions per female in the different temperature conditions; the average duration of the immature period and determination of the average number of individuals reaching the adult stage by oviposition; and the effect of different concentrations of atrazine in the different temperature conditions on the average duration of ovigerous females, the average number of ovipositions per female and the average number of nauplii per female.
