Taxonomy and geographical distribution of the limoniid fly dicranoptycha mirabilis diptera limoniidae

, : Taxonomy and geographical distribution of the limoniid fly dicranoptycha mirabilis diptera limoniidae. Dopovidi Akademiyi Nauk Ukrayins'koyi RSR Seriya B Heolohiya Heofizyka Khimiya ta Biolohiya (11): 1040-1043

The previously unknown males of D. mirabilis were found in one locality with the paratypical females (Turkmenia, Ispas on the Amu-Daryka river [USSR]). Overall they look like females, from which they differ only by a structure of the genital apparatus. For the latter, the medial membranization of seternite IX and an intricate structure of the basistyles supplied with large ventromesal lobes are especially characteristic. Because these characters are specific for D. mirabilis, it is placed in a special subgenus. Of all the known species of the genus, only the Ephiopian D. otricolor Al. (1920), which may be related to D. mirabilis, has the basistyles with intricate ventromesal lobes. Besides terra typica, the distribution area D. mirabilis covers is the Ferghana valley in Central Asia and, perphaps, beyond its boundaries Asia Minor, from where (Kushadisi 100 km southwards of Izmir) 2 females supposedly belonging to this species are preserved in the collection of the Zoological Institute and museum of A. Koenig and Bonn, West Germany.
