The effect of urcin on the reversal of experimental athero sclerosis

, : The effect of urcin on the reversal of experimental athero sclerosis. Biologicheskie Nauki (Moscow) 20(7): 77-80

Injection of urcin (a mixture of ursolic and oleanolic acids from thyme) to rabbits with experimental atherosclerosis accelerated the reversal of the disease in comparison with untreated animals. A more rapid normalization of blood cholesterol and .beta.-lipoprotein levels and of the cholesterol-phospholipid ratio was noted. Urcin facilitated the more rapid removal of cholesterol and .beta.-lipoproteins from the aorta and of cholesterol from the liver. The effects of urcin in reversing experimental atherosclerosis were somewhat different from results obtained in previous experiments with the simultaneous injection of urcin and cholesterol.
