The gastropod fauna of the mid jurassic of case canepine umbria italy systematics paleobiogeography paleoecology

, : The gastropod fauna of the mid jurassic of case canepine umbria italy systematics paleobiogeography paleoecology. Geologica Romana 21: 125-184

The 1st benthic fauna of some importance from the mid-Jurassic of the Umbro-Marchigiano series is discussed. Its stratigraphic position is indicated by a combination of ammonites characteristic of the lower Bajocian. The fauna is largely composed of gastropods, the majority of which are small size and include > 70 spp.; 57 are sufficiently well preserved to be determined. Besides 5 new genera and 6 new species recently described, 34 new species and 9 new genera or subgenera are described as follows: NUMMOTECTUS gen. nov., TROCHOTECTUS gen. nov. (Trochidae), ATAPHROPSIS gen. nov. (?Cylcostrematidae), NICOSIAELLA gen. nov. (Platyacridae), ACANTHOSTROPHIA gen. nov. (Zygopleuridae), Trochoturbella (PROTURBOELLA ) subgen. nov. (Rissoidae), ZEBINOSTOMA gen. nov. (Rissoinidae). The following genera have never been reported in the Bajocian: Helicocryptus, Eucyclomphalus, Trochoturbella and Harpagodes. Only 19 of the species are found in other deposits.
