The influence of carbon di oxide concentration on net photosynthesis of greenhouse tomato seedling pagham cultivar

, : The influence of carbon di oxide concentration on net photosynthesis of greenhouse tomato seedling pagham cultivar. Bulletin de l'Academie Polonaise des Sciences Serie des Sciences Biologiques 27(4): 289-294

A CO2 dispensing-recording system was developed for the measurements of net photosynthesis of tomatoes. A definite concentration of CO2 is obtained by maintaining a continuous flow of air devoid of CO2 and by adding CO2 using a capillary. The system was used for measurements of net photosynthesis of Pagham Cross tomatoes, both seedling and overgrown leaves. The results indicate that: in the light reactions the greater the surplus of ATP in photosynthetic phosphorylation and of reduced NADP, the higher is the intensity of illumination; as the leaves age, enzymatic changes of the Calvin-Benson cycle are inhibited more intensely than the energetic and reducing quota of photosynthetic transformations; the oxidizing character of ribulose 1,5-diphosphate becomes more manifest as the leaves age; and increased stomatal diffusion resistance (RS) under the influence of increased CO2 concentration is manifested more clearly in young plants.
