The influence of thymosin on arterial blood pressure in cats

, : The influence of thymosin on arterial blood pressure in cats. Agressologie: Revue Internationale de Physio-Biologie et de Pharmacologie Appliquees Aux Effets de L'agression 25(9): 1009-1010

Thymosin (Thy), a purified calf thymus extract, was injected in femoral vein in a dose of 2 mg kg1 body weight. Arterial blood pressure (BP) was registered in the left common carotid artery 20, 30, 40, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 min after Thy injection. A lowering of the BP was established usually 20-30 min after Thy was injected. The maximal hypotensive action of Thy, in most of the experiments was registered 60 min after Thy. The hypotensive effect lasted about 160 min. Thus 60 min after injection of Thy, the systolic BP had dropped from 19.30 .+-. 0.26 kPa (144.95 .+-. 2 mm Hg) to 15.18 .+-. 0.47 kPa (113.9 .+-. 3.5 mm Hg) (P < 0.001) i.e., 21.4%, while the diastolic BP had decreased by 35.6% (from 12.05 .+-. 0.24 kPa/90.4 .+-. 1.8 mm Hg/to 7.69 .+-. 0.45 kPa/57.7 .+-. 3.4 mm Hg) (P < 0.001). At the end of the experiment (180 min) the BP had not yet risen to its initial level.
