The naupliar stages of bryocamptus pygmaeus sars 1862 copepoda harpacticoida canthocamptidae

, : The naupliar stages of bryocamptus pygmaeus sars 1862 copepoda harpacticoida canthocamptidae. Drosera 87(1): 47-58

All 6 naupliar stages of Bryocamptus pygmaeus are described. Intraspecific variability of the nauplii in a laboratory population is remarkable concerning size and spinule numbers. Also an asymmetry of appendage-spinulation can be observed. Setulation patterns are almost constant. Comparison with data on the naupliar development of 2 other species of Bryocamptus obtained from the literature reveals species-specific naupliar characters although similarity of nauplii within the genus is great. Minimum generation time of Bryocamptus pygmaeus is 30 days at 19.degree. C and reproduction of laboratory cultures takes place continuously.
