The production of growth regulators by fusarium culmorum as related to the age of mycelium

, : The production of growth regulators by fusarium culmorum as related to the age of mycelium. Acta Physiologiae Plantarum 8(2): 85-92

The capacity of the fungus for the production of gibberellin-like and cytokinin-like substances. IAA and ABA [abscisic acid] was determined with relation to the age of mycelium. In the experiment I the fungi cultivated 1, 3, 5, 10 or 15 days in liquid medium were transferred into fresh medium. Growth regulators were determined in culture filtrates after 24 hr. The greatest capacity for the production of these compounds has been found in younger fungi; ABA in one-day old, IAA and GAs-in three-day old, and cytokinin-like substances in 5-day old fungi. In the experiment II the amounts of growth regulators were determined in culture filtrates several times within 15 days of cultivation of the fungi. The level of IAA, and especially of ABA, in the filtrates was found to decrease rapidly with the age of the culture. This indicates that in the course of time these substrates became transformed. GAs kept at a high level throughout the experiment, while the level of cytokinin-like substances increased as the experiment proceeded.
