The testosterone level in the blood plasma of men with diabetes mellitus

, : The testosterone level in the blood plasma of men with diabetes mellitus. Problemy Endokria 21(5): 19-23

Patients (57) suffering from diabetes and 12 apparently healthy men were studied. The diabetics displayed a reduction in testosterone concentration with increased age, increased duration and severity of diabetes, and also with inadequate disease compensation in the presence of microangiopathy and peripheral neuropathy. In patients in the late stages of progressive impotence the testosterone level was sharply decreased. This fall was less pronounced in the patients at the initial stages of the disturbances. Adrogenic insufficiency of the testes was significant in the pathogenesis of impotence in diabetes. Recommendations are presented on the prophylaxis of testicular androgenic insufficiency in diabetes, and on the use of testosterone preparations in the therapy of impotence of men suffering from diabetes.
