Theoretical and experimental investigations into light scattering by the chlorella vulgaris cell

, : Theoretical and experimental investigations into light scattering by the chlorella vulgaris cell. Bulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences Earth Sciences 34(3): 313-320

The paper presents the results of experimental investigations into light scattering by the Chlorella vulgaris cell together with a theoretical interpretation of the spatial scattering function characterizing the optical properties of this organism. Theoretical results are in a fairly good agreement with the experimental ones. The model of light scattering by Chlorella vulgaris, used to explain the results of agreement, is a complex one, taking into account scattering of light by the cell membrane as well as by strongly absorbing inner structures. It can be applied to any phytoplankton cell, which makes it particularly important for the development of active and passive methods of remote recording of the chlorophyll content in the sea.
