Use of substitute feeds in the lamb feedlot i. growth and feed intake

, : Use of substitute feeds in the lamb feedlot i. growth and feed intake. Vedecke Prace Vyskumneho Ustavu Ovciarskeho v Trencine (10): 83-90

A trial with intensive fattening of Tsigai lambs was conducted on the experimental farm of the Research Institute for Sheep Breeding in Trencianska Tepla. The lambs were assigned to four groups and have been fed different diets over an 84-day period. Group I was fed ad libitum meadow hay and a concentrate mixture consisting of standard mixture COJ II and 20 per cent of dried sterilized faeces. Group II received the same diet with 40 per cent of dried sterilized faeces, while the diet of group III contained 60 per cent of dried sterilized faeces. The control group (IV) consumed meadow hay and standard concentrate mixture COJ II. The results attained in the trial were as follows: 1. Group I-a reduction in intake of concentrate mixture COJ II by 9.29 per cent as compared to the controls, while the consumption of hay was at par with the control group and weight gains decreased by 8.61 per cent. 2. Group II-intake of standard concentrate mixture COJ II was reduced by 21.05 per cent, while hay consumption increased by 7.53 per cent and growth decreased by 15.09 per cent as compared to the control group. 3. Group III-a decrease in intake of COJ II by 43.44 per cent and weight gains by 27.15 per cent and an increase in hay consumption by 20.46 per cent. 4. The costs of feedstuffs were lower in the test groups by 9.47-13 per cent vis-a-vis the control group.
