Vegetation invading almond groves in the syracuse region

, : Vegetation invading almond groves in the syracuse region. Archivio Botanico e Biogeografico Italiano 50(1-2): 1-26

The vegetation of the almond groves in the Syracuse [Italy] area consists of a typical anthropogenous grouping which is not well defined from a phytosociological point of view, because it is composed of floristic contingents of different significance. However, it is considered to be a grouping of Thero-Chenopodietea, particularly of Eragrostidion, characterized by Rumex bucephalophorus L. ssp. bucephalophorus and by Diplotaxis erucoides (L.) DC. In the interior of the grouping, as a variation to the anthropic influence principally brought about through the working of the soil, one observes the presence of different characteristic entities under the groupings Hordeion and Echio-Galactition. The concluding considerations indicate the significance of this grouping as a substituting vegetation in the climax Oleo-Ceratonion forest.
