Writing characteristics of normal dyslexic and dysgraphic children

, : Writing characteristics of normal dyslexic and dysgraphic children. Journal of Human Movement Studies 13(4): 171-188

The paper deals with a study performed to throw more light on the writing parameters of 24 "normal", 24 dyslexic, and 24 dysgraphic children, and to examine differences between the groups with concern to the same parameters. The process variables of Ss' writing were emphasized. A computer-controlled digitizer and a SAGE IV digital micro-computer were used when testing the nine-year-old Ss. When accuracy-scores, time-scores, and process parameters (motor aspects of Ss' writing rhythm displayed by the absolute velocity curves) were analyzed and compared all the writing performances of "normal" Ss surpassed the ones of the comparable groups. The dysgraphic children were inferior to the dyslexics in all performances, except for the writing time.
