Biological discrimination between calcium and strontium in the kidney and bone of calcium deficient growing rats

, : Biological discrimination between calcium and strontium in the kidney and bone of calcium deficient growing rats. Journal of Trace Elements in Experimental Medicine 3(4): 327-336

Effects of calcium (Ca) deficiency on the biological discrimination between Ca and strontium (Sr) in the kidney and bone were studied in growing female rats by examining the Sr/Ca ratios in the plasma, urine, and bone. The Ca-Sr discrimination in the reabsorption process in the kidney was shown to be less strict in the Ca-deficient rats than in the control rats. A similar tendency was observed in the absorption process in the digestive tract. On the other hand, the discrimination of the two elements in the femur was shown to be more strict in the Ca-deficient rats.
