The male adult of CARBOCHIRONOMUS improvisus, gen. nov. spec. nov. is described. The unknown immatures presumable live in a small man-made lake of the brown coal mining area near Cologne, Western Germany. Carbochironomus belongs to the Harnischia complex, and is closely related to the genus Kloosia Kruseman.
