Characterization of cattle chimeras by isoelectric focusing

, : Characterization of cattle chimeras by isoelectric focusing. Journal of Animal Breeding & Genetics 106(1): 67-76

Of the 7 living animals produced by combining halves of two parent embryos and where blood groups could only be ascribed to one parent embryo, 3 were identified as intraspecific cattle chimeras in different protein systems by isoelectric focusing in combination with a densitometric record. In one aggregated chimera coat colour, hemoglobins and transferrin represents the original embryos with different proportions; their relative proportions did not change over a period of 34 months. Carbonic anhydrase chimerism was found in 2 other animals. In the other polymorphic systems (posttransferrin, vitamin B binding protein, albumin) of the blood and milk (.alpha.s1-casein, .beta.-casein, k-casein, .beta.-lactoglobulin) chimerism could not be excluded.
