Free amino acid profiles of aerobic red and anaerobic white skeletal muscle of the cyprinid fish carassius auratus l. goldfish

, : Free amino acid profiles of aerobic red and anaerobic white skeletal muscle of the cyprinid fish carassius auratus l. goldfish. Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology A 94(4): 809-812

1. A reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatographic technique (with o-phthaldialdehyde derivatization and UV-detection) was employed to compare the free amino acid profiles of aerobic and anaerobic skeletal muscle types of fed, normoxic goldfish. 2. Both muscle types differ significantly in levels of free histidine, taurine, glycine, valine, isoleucine, glutamic acid and aspartic acid and are very rich in the nonprotein amino acid derivative, 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid (taurine), and the essential free amino acid, histidine. 3. Goldfish red muscle free amino acid pool consists of 50% taurine, 25% histidine and 25% other free amino acids, while in the white muscle the distribution is 40% taurine, 30% histidine and 30% other free amino acids.
