Goose migration anser sp div. over the territory of the czech republic czechoslovakia

, : Goose migration anser sp div. over the territory of the czech republic czechoslovakia. Folia Zoologica 39(2): 131-146

Visual observation of geese migrating over the territory of the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) from September 1982 till the end of 1986 showed that the majority of records concern spring and autumn migration of A. fabalis and A. albifrons from the north of Europe to their wintering places in the Kis Alfold (Little Plain) in Hungary. No relation was found between the number of geese on these wintering places and the intensity of their migration over the CSR. Spring migration with one peak takes place between 25/II and 31/III, autumn migration with several peaks between 23/XI and 5/I. In individual years, great differences were found in the intensity of migration. A difference also existed in the migration time and peaks. No relation between autumn migration intensity and subsequent spring migration was found. The maximum of migrations is concentrated in the sector between southern Moravia and the area between the Giant and the Jeseniky Mts., in the southern direction in autumn (80% SW-SE), and northern direction in spring (91% NW-NE). The migration intensity maximum in day was recorded from 9 to 11 am and 3 to 5 pm. No relation between temperature situation in central Europe and migration intensity was found.
