Gram positive shock

, : Gram positive shock. Current Opinion in Infectious Diseases 5(3): 355-363

Gram-positive infections due to Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Listeria monocytogenes, and non-group A Streptococcus cause serious infections in humans, and in the last 15 years some have seemingly become more virulent and certainly more resistant to antibiotics. This review discusses the clinical nuances of gram-positive infection and pursues basic science mechanisms responsible for shock, tissue destruction, and multiorgan failure.
