Granulation of potassium chloride in instrumented fluidized bed granulator part i effect of flow rate

, : Granulation of potassium chloride in instrumented fluidized bed granulator part i effect of flow rate. Acta Pharmaceutica Fennica 99(1): 13-22

Potassium chloride was granulated in an instrumented fluidized bed granulator (Glatt WSG-5) at various flow rates of binder solution (aqueous dispersion of polymethacrylate). Corresponding tablets were compressed with an instrumented single-punch tablet machine. The properties of the granules and tablets were evaluated, especially the dissolution of potassium chloride. The granule size was found to increase and the dissolution of potassium chloride to decrease with increasing binder solution flow rate. The constructed instrumentation of the granulator proved to be very viable in process investigations like this. The instrumentation and the linked output gave valuable information of the granulation process parameters.
