, : Mexerion new genus asteraceae inuleae from mexico. Phytologia 68(4): 247-254

A new genus from Mexico is described, MEXERION, characterized by a perennial duration, herbaceous habit, fibrous roots, leafy and plantlet tipped stolons, narrowly lanceolate to oblanceolate leaves, very large heads in a spiciform capitulescence, disc flowers with sterile ovaries and nonpapillate achenes with myxogenic hairs and basally fused pappus bristles. The genus comprises two species, M. sarmentosum (Klatt) Nesom, comb nov. [.ident. Graphalium sarmentosum], from the high volcanic peaks of south central Mexico and M. mexicanum Nesom, sp. nov., from the area of high elevation near Cerro Mohinora in southern Chihuahua.
