Modelling alcohol production and cell viability in a cascade reactor with immobilized cells

, : Modelling alcohol production and cell viability in a cascade reactor with immobilized cells. Revista de Microbiologia 21(1): 79-84

Alcohol production and cell viability performance were modelized in a cascade reactor with cells immobilized in polyethylene foam. Alcohol production could be predicted with a model based on apparent kinetic constants related to the free cells in the reactor effluent. Viability of cells was shown to be a function of both ethanol concentration and cell residence time in the reactor. The models are quite simple with kinetic constants, readily obtained from continuous culture data.
