Spectral characteristics of light sources and the growth characteristics of plants subjected to artificial illumination

, : Spectral characteristics of light sources and the growth characteristics of plants subjected to artificial illumination. Fiziologiya Rastenii (Moscow) 37(2): 386-396

Experimental results are presented on plant growth in controlled conditions with light sources of various spectral characteristics. Spectral distribution in the range from 300 to 1100 nm for 12 lamp types commonly used in phytotrons and greenhouses, measured by the portable spectroradiometer LI-1800 (USA), is given. The "biological" characteristics of the lamps and the effects of separate PAR regions on plant growth and productivity are assessed. It has been shown that for growing full-value plants under artificial illumination, certain energy combinations of red, green, and blue PAR regions are required. Some recommendations on such combinations for constructing plant-growing lamps are presented.
