First record of the rhizocephalan Briarosaccus callosus (Cirripedia, Peltogastridae) infecting the Atlantic porcupine stone crab Neolithodes grimaldii (Decapoda, Anomura, Lithodidae)

, : First record of the rhizocephalan Briarosaccus callosus (Cirripedia, Peltogastridae) infecting the Atlantic porcupine stone crab Neolithodes grimaldii (Decapoda, Anomura, Lithodidae). Crustaceana (Leiden): 622: 133-136

The rhizocephalan Briarosaccus callosus is reported for the first time on the host Neolithodes grimaldii. This is the first mention of B. callosus in Canadian Atlantic waters and represents and an extension northward to just below the Arctic circle. The parasite is the second largest specimen known and is the second capture from a depth of more than 1000m. A small isopod hyperparasite was discovered in the mantle cavity of B. callosus. The specimen and its host are at the Atlantic Reference Center, Huntsman Marine Science Center, Saint Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada.
