Immunohistochemical characterization and lectin-binding of epithelia in the human and porcine ciliary bodies

, : Immunohistochemical characterization and lectin-binding of epithelia in the human and porcine ciliary bodies. Journal of Clinical Electron Microscopy 25(3-4): 289-299

Immunohistochemical and lectin-binding studies on human and porcine ciliary bodies were performed to investigate their characters. Antibodies to cytokeratin subsets, S-100 and S-100 beta proteins were positive for both the non-pigmented epithelium (NPE) and the pigmented epithelium (PE). Antibodies to collagen type IV and laminin were revealed to be useful markers to disclose the inner and outer limiting membranes in normal and abnormal conditions. Additionally, some lectins, such as Dolichos biflorus lectin, Arachis hypogea lectin, and Ulex europeus lectin were found to be applicable for further studies of NPE or endothelial cells of ciliary vessels in both species.
