Optimization of the PERSPEC multifraction aerosol sampler to new sampling conventions

, : Optimization of the PERSPEC multifraction aerosol sampler to new sampling conventions. Annals of Occupational Hygiene 38(1): 23-35

An experimental evaluation of the PERSPEC multifraction aerosol sampler was carried out. The pattern in which particles of different sizes deposit on the filter was determined using fluorescent monodisperse particles, and compared with theoretical predictions. The experimental data were used to devise a method for subdividing the filter into respirable, thoracic and inhalable aerosol fractions. The bias in aerosol concentrations assessed using this method was estimated for a range of size distributions, and found to be generally very low.
