Laser microprobe mass spectrometry (LMMS) is one of the few simultaneous multielement analysis methods for biological tissues that provides both high sensitivity (generally, mu-g/g) and high spatial resolution (= 1 mu-m). Unfortunately, LMMS, like many spatially resolved techniques, lacks methods for quantitation.
