Radical scavenging and antiperoxidative effect of jyuzentaihoto

, : Radical scavenging and antiperoxidative effect of jyuzentaihoto. Natural Medicines 51(6): 528-531, Dec

The herb medicine prescription, jyuzentaihoto was studied for its scavenging effects on the reactive oxygen species and on the lipid peroxidation of mitochondrial membrane, by the ESR spin trapping methods using 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline-1-oxide (DMPO) as a spin trap. Jyuzentaihoto scavenged both superoxide anion and hydroxyl radicals almost completely at 1.0 mg/ml. Jyuzentaihoto completely inhibited lipid the ADP/Fe2+ initiated peroxidation of rat liver mitochondria at 0.5 mg/ml, when determined by measuring the formation of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS).
