This report documents the collection of in situ Leaf Area Index (LAI) data concurrent with LANDSAT Thematic Mapper (TM) data in the Loddon-Campaspe catchments, northern Victoria. Cloud-free TM imagery was obtained four times in 1995 (February, August, October, and November) and field measurements of LAI were taken just afterwards. The TM images were rectified to maps with an error of 1 pixel and registered to each other with an error of less than 1 pixel. From the rectified TM images relationships between at-satellite planetary albedo vegetation indices and in situ LAI measurements were developed. When plant growth was responding to rain-fed water supply (August, October, and November) the difference between modelled and actual LAI was less than +-0.05 LAI unit for at least 80% of the crop and pasture samples.
