The changes of the localization of ascorbic in the rat adrenal gland on microwave applied

, : The changes of the localization of ascorbic in the rat adrenal gland on microwave applied. Turkish Journal of Biology 22(1): 43-51

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of microwave on the localization of ascorbic acid in the rat adrenal gland. We studied 21 male Sprague-Dawley rats (220-250 g), aged 2.5 months. The animals were divided into three different groups. First group was taken on control (n:7). The second group (n:7) 9450 MHz, 2.65 mW/cm2 was applied for one hour a day for 13 days, while in the third group (n:7) this application continued for 52 days. Rats were sacrificed under ether anaesthesia and then their adrenal gland were removed en bloc and fixed in silver nitrate solution (10%). The paraffin sections were stained with Alum Carmine and evaluated under the light microscope. In group I, the ascorbic acid granules formed a homogenous distribution, whereas in the second group the ascorbic acid in the capsula capillary endothelium and zona glomerulosa of adrenal gland does not exit, but a different formation was observed in the fasciculata, reticularis and medulla. One the other hand, in group III animals the ascorbic acid granules being in accumulation was clearly seen in the endothelium of the capillary sinusoids. In conclusion, the reason or the increase of ascorbic acid granules in the adrenal glands of the rats to which microwave was applied for long duration, is likely to be due to the increase of body resistance against stress response.
