Human food safety evaluation of rDNA biotechnology-derived foods

, : Human food safety evaluation of rDNA biotechnology-derived foods. Food Technology 54(9): 61

Part of an expert report from the Institute of Food Technologists on biotechnology and foods looks at issues of food safety. Issues relevant to safety evaluation of recombinant DNA (rDNA) biotechnology-derived foods that are examined include the concept of substantial equivalence, safety of introduced genetic material and gene product, unintended effects, allergenicity, and products without conventional counterparts. In addition, the scientific consensus of international scientific groups about the safety of rDNA biotechnology-derived foods is presented.
