, : Der Vogel gromphena bei Plinius: Ein ausgestorbener Kranich auf Sardinien. Bonner Zoologische Beitraege 50(3): 221-226

An extinct crane-like bird, named gromphena, which lived on the island of Sardinia (Italy) based on the testimony of Pliny the Elder (23/24 B.C.-79 A.C.), is identified as a species of the Grus primigenia/Grus antigone complex, by evidence of etymology, linguistics, and faunal history.
