To study the effect of roofing on open-air culture lagoons in the production of Chlorella vulgaris, we used two 450 L ponds. One pond was submitted to direct solar energy, but the other was covered with blue, translucent plastic sheeting. Culture medium was waste water originating from defrosted, eviscerated and boiled tuna fish (Katsuwonus pelamis and Thunnus atlanticus), to which Chlorella vulgaris was inoculated in required concentrations.
