Tieraerztliche Umschau 57(7): 359-367

The study involved the examination of the effects of husbandry systems on body weight and heart rate of 12 Holstein-Friesian identical twin calves that were the offspring of one sire. Six calves were reared in groups and fed milk replacer and six calves were reared singly and fed whole milk. Measurements were repeated over a period of ninety days. The growth rate of the milk-fed calves was greater up to 90 days of age, as was body weight at 50 and 90 days of age.
