Nitrogen management in pearl millet under rainfed agriculture

, : Nitrogen management in pearl millet under rainfed agriculture. Advances in Plant Sciences 16(2): 531-533, December

A field experiment was conducted with different combinations of time and mode of application of N to pearl millet (var. GHB 27) under rainfed conditions for three successive years (1989 to 1991) at Main Dry Farming Research Station, Targhadia (Gujarat). The grain and fodder yield of pearl millet were not influenced significantly due to different treatment combinations of time and mode of application. However, the maximum gross income (Rs. 13423 ha-1) was obtained when recommended dose of N (80 kg ha-1) was splited as 25% at sowing time +50% at tillering +25% at flag leaf, followed by gross income (Rs. 13289 ha-1) was obtained when 25% N applied at sowing +75% at tillering (25-30 DAS).
