The immature stages of Fucellia capensis (Schiner) (Diptera: Anthomyiidae) from the southwestern seaboard of Africa, with a review of the known immature stages and ecology of the genus

, : The immature stages of Fucellia capensis (Schiner) (Diptera: Anthomyiidae) from the southwestern seaboard of Africa, with a review of the known immature stages and ecology of the genus. Cimbebasia 19(December): 95-109

This paper presents the description of the 3rd instar larva and puparium of Fucellia capensis (Schiner), based on material reared from the kelp species Laminaria pallida Greville ex J.Agardh on the Namibian seaboard. Descriptions are illustrated with stereoscan micrographs (SEMs) and line drawings of diagnostic character states. Previous literature pertaining to the immature stages and ecology of the genus is reviewed, and an attempt is made to compare the immature stages of F. capensis to other published illustrations of immature stages. Pending further SEM studies, a preliminary generic diagnosis of the 3rd instar larvae of Fucellia is proposed.
