Iodine nutrition status among schoolchildren after salt iodisation

, : Iodine nutrition status among schoolchildren after salt iodisation. Ceylon Medical Journal 50(4): 144-148

Background: Earlier studies done in Sri Lanka have indicated the importance of iodine deficiency as a public health problem. The universal salt iodization programme has been implemented since 1995. The goals of salt iodization are reduction of goitre rate to <5% in school children, to maintain the median urinary iodine level in the population between 100-200 micro g/litre, and to have >90% of households using iodized salt.
