Development of a photogrammetric method of measuring tree taper outside bark

, : Development of a photogrammetric method of measuring tree taper outside bark. General Technical Report Southern Research Station, USDA Forest Service (SRS-92): 347-350

This paper describes the development of a new method and procedures for measuring tree taper using digital photographs of the trees. This method has several advantages including: (i) creating a permanent record of the tree; (ii) showing multiple sides of each tree to be measured; (iii) allowing measurement to be done in the comfort of an office; and (iv) providing a non-destructive method of obtaining tree taper measurements.
