Grade A dairy farm growth in Virginia

, : Grade A dairy farm growth in Virginia. Bulletin 75, 102, 25 p

The overall objective of this study was to construct a predictive model which will indicate the growth patterns of Grade A dairy farms in Virginia. the hypothesis is that growth, as measured by average annual percentage change in total production, is a function of efficiency, increased resource use, rented inputs, personal and situational variables, and attitudes. sixty three farms enrolled in the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Record System were included in the study. data were assembled for a nine year period from 1962 to 1970 from the records. additional information on personal and situational characteristics was obtained by a mailed questionnaire. increased use of the basic resources of land, labor, and capital were factors significantly associated with growth. increased production, labor, and capital efficiency factors were also significant. the addition of personal and situational variables improved the predictive model. attitudes as measured in the study were not predictors of growth of an acceptable level of significance.
