Botulism of Sheep and Cattle in Western Australia : Its Cause and its Prevention by Immunization

, : Botulism of Sheep and Cattle in Western Australia : Its Cause and its Prevention by Immunization. Aust. vet. J, 14: 105-118

In certain districts in Western Australia, annual losses of sheep and cattle have occurred as the result of the ingestion of material, generally rabbit carrion, containing the toxin of Clostridium botulinum Type C. The sarcophagia is evident during the long, dry summer period, and because of the resultant seasonal incidence of botulism the authors elaborated control methods depending upon the inoculation of two doses of botulinum toxoid (alum-precipitated) before outbreaks are to be expected.
