The first volume of the Flora of the U.S.S.R. was issued in 1934, and up to the present five volumes in all have appeared. The first volume deals with the Archegoniatae, with the exception of the Bryophyta, which are treated in a separate series devoted to "spore-bearing plants". Then come the Gymnospermae followed by the first groups of the Monocotyledoneae. These are continued in the second volume, which is almost entirely devoted to the Gramineae.
