Microscopic lesions without functional impairment of striated musculature of suckling E-low rats

, : Microscopic lesions without functional impairment of striated musculature of suckling E-low rats. Proc. Soc. Exp. Biol. Med, 45: 135-136

Doses of 6 or 10 mg. alpha -tocopherol in ethyl laurate were given to female rats on diets low in vitamin E on the first day of lactation. With both doses the appearance of macroscopic signs of paralysis in the suckling young were prevented but microscopic examination of muscles when the young rats were killed at weaning showed typical signs of dystrophy in those from mothers having the 6 mg. dose. No lesions were found in those from mothers which had had 10 mg. alpha -tocopherol. A. M.
