Necessity for the grass juice factor for the growth of rabbits and its absence from liver extracts

, : Necessity for the grass juice factor for the growth of rabbits and its absence from liver extracts. Rev. din. espanola, 10: 167-170

Rabbits receiving a diet of pea flour with 10 to 40 per cent, of wheat bran failed to grow and died in 6 to 10 weeks. Addition of fresh alfalfa permitted growth and survival, but supplements of autoclaved liver extract and tocopherol were without beneficial effect. The present know ledge of the grass juice factor is usefully summarised and the need of it for the growth of rabbits is discussed. The experiments indicated that the factor was not present in liver.
