The Dissociation of Mycobact. tuberculosis. II

, : The Dissociation of Mycobact. tuberculosis. II. Ann. Inst. Pasteur, 54: 195-244

Human, bovine and avian strains of M. tuberculosis, whether typical or atypical, have not fixed morphological characters, but undergo spontaneous dissociation into Ch, R and S variants. This dissociation occurs more frequently in vivo than in vitro. The S is the dominant type in avian strains and the Ch and R variants are relatively rare. The R is the dominant type in mammalian strains. None of these types are absolutely stable.
