The control of gastric hyperacidity in peptic ulcer

, : The control of gastric hyperacidity in peptic ulcer. Brit. Med. J, 2: 13-16

Various methods of control were investigated. In 9 patients 2-hourly feeds of citrated milk produced an acid secretion up to 85 units (ml. 0-1 N NaOH per 100 ml.). Olive oil depressed HCl secretion to 20 units. Milk and oil reduced acidity by 50 per cent. In 3 patients under treatment by the Meulengracht Witts diet, acidity was reduced by 40 per cent. by the addition of olive oil and alkali.
