The nature of the lipoid matter extracted from green leaves (spinach and cabbage)

, : The nature of the lipoid matter extracted from green leaves (spinach and cabbage). Biochemical Journal 25(2): 606-613

The hydrocarbon present in the unsaponifiable matter of spinach leaf has been definitely identified as hentriacontane. Ceryl alcohol was also present in this material. Palmitic, cerotic, oleic, linolenic acids and an isomeride of linoleic acid have been isolated from these leaves. The authors confirm the presence of nonacosane and n-dimyristyl ketone in the unsaponifiable matter of the cabbage leaf. In these leaves the fatty acids are palmitic and a higher fatty acid, probably behenic.
